Note: Ensure that you have Microsoft Outlook installed on your system before installing Stellar Mailbox Exchange Recovery software. If you don’t follow that order, you will be presented with Phoenix.dll error.
How we worked with it
We needed to recover critical company information saved within our Exchange database pronto. So after we installed this product, we followed the below mentioned procedure to perform a quick data recovery. Plus, learning from our little glitch, we decided to make the recovery process thorough by saving the recovered data locally in a PST file, exporting it to live Exchange, as well as to Office 365. Yes, the software lets you do all three! The steps for each of these scenarios are described below.
Saving recovered data in PST format
- Launch the software and from the home screen browse to select your corrupted EDB file (if you are new to this, you can use the ‘Find’ button in the software’s interface to locate the EDB file on your system)
- After selecting the file, pick a scanning mode (options are ‘Quick’ and ‘Extensive’). Since we didn’t want to take any chances, we selected Extensive scanning mode and clicked ‘OK’
- Our action initiated a deep scan of the corrupted EDB file and after some time, the recoverable data was displayed in a tree-view list in the software’s left-hand panel. From this panel, a user can select any folder to view its content in the middle panel and preview individual items in the right-hand panel.
- Finally, we select all the data that we wanted to recover and clicked on the ‘Save’ button from the File menu.
- From the array of output options, we picked PST, selected a destination folder to save the file, and clicked on ‘OK’. And that was it! After several minutes, all the data we had selected was saved in a PST file at the location we had specified.
We exported the PST file into Outlook and checked and all our data was there. We were saved! And all it took was a few clicks and a little time. Then we proceeded to export the recovered data to live Exchange.
Exporting recovered data to live Exchange
With this option, we were able to export all recovered data directly to mailboxes on the running Exchange server. Here’s how we used this option:
- Steps 1 through 4 mentioned above remained the same
- From the list of output options, we selected Export to Exchange Mailbox
- The next screen prompted us to select the Exchange mailbox to which we wanted to restore the recovered data and fill in the respective login data
- Once connected to the server, we were shown a list of all mailboxes residing on it and all we had to do was double-click on the mailbox name to start the import process
As simple as that! However you should know that this option works only for a machine that is joined to the same domain that the Exchange server you are exporting to belongs; if you initiate the import from some other machine, you will get an error and the process will be terminated.
Finally, we saved the recovered data to Office 365 to be absolutely certain that we’ll have all the backups of our critical data that we ever need. Here are the steps we followed.

- From the list of output options, we selected Export to Office 365 Mailbox
- The next screen prompted us to log into our Office 365 account and once that was done, the export was pretty smoothly completed.
Final Findings and Verdict
